This page brings together typical Renault maintenance plans and service intervals across the range, from older classics to current models. Because Renault has used many different engines and drivetrains over the years, the exact schedule can vary by model, engine family and year.

What to know about Renault servicing

On some 1.2 and 1.3 TCe engines the timing belt runs in the engine oil. Replacing it means dropping the sump, which lengthens the job and makes it more expensive than a conventional timing belt.

Servicing by engine type

Petrol, LPG and Bioethanol (E85) Renault servicing

For petrol Renaults (including LPG and E85 variants), routine servicing is largely driven by engine oil condition and time as much as mileage. Typical oil and filter intervals fall somewhere between 12 and 24 months, and can range widely in distance depending on engine and usage, from about 7,500 km up to around 40,000 km. It is also worth keeping up with spark plugs and air filtration, particularly if the car does lots of short journeys. On LPG models, paying attention to any fuel-system-specific filters and checks helps maintain smooth running and starting.

Diesel (dCi/Blue dCi) Renault servicing

Diesel Renaults are usually sensitive to missed routine maintenance, so keeping oil and filter changes on schedule is important, especially with frequent short trips. Depending on engine and service plan, oil service timing is typically 12 to 24 months, with distance intervals varying widely from roughly 7,500 km to around 40,000 km. Air and fuel filtration are key on diesel engines, and many models also have emissions-related components that benefit from the right driving profile and correct fluids. If the vehicle is used for towing or constant stop-start work, earlier servicing is often advisable.

48V mild hybrid (MHEV) Renault servicing

Renault 48V mild hybrids still have a conventional petrol engine, so they follow a familiar service pattern with additional electrical and charging-system checks. Oil and filter intervals are commonly time-based (typically 12 to 24 months), with mileage limits varying by engine, from about 7,500 km up to around 40,000 km. Because the engine may stop and start more frequently in traffic, using the correct oil specification and keeping to the schedule matters. Servicing may also include checks of the 48V system, wiring and cooling where fitted.

Electric Renault servicing

Fully electric Renaults do not need engine oil changes, but they still require regular inspection and maintenance of safety-critical items. Typical work includes brake checks (often with attention to corrosion from lighter brake use), tyres, suspension, steering and cabin filtration, plus checks for coolant circuits where the battery or power electronics are liquid-cooled. Service intervals are often more time-led than mileage-led, as wear items and fluids still age. High-voltage components should only be inspected and worked on using the correct procedures and safety precautions.

Common service operations for Renault

The table below summarises the most common service operations and when they are usually due on Renault vehicles. Use it as a quick guide, then confirm the exact interval for your engine, as schedules can differ between petrol, diesel, hybrid and full electric powertrains.

Operation Typical interval Notes
Oil and filter changeDepending on engineVaries by engine and recommended oil grade
Air filter30,000 to 60,000 kmMore often in urban or dusty driving
Cabin filter15,000 to 30,000 km or 1 yearAffects air conditioning and air quality
Brake fluid2 years (all models)Regardless of mileage
CoolantPer manufacturer (typically 5 years or 100,000 km)Check level and condition (colour, deposits) at every service
Front brake padsDepending on use (typically 30,000 to 60,000 km)Wear depends on driving style and load carried
Timing beltvaries by engineInterval varies widely by engine
Spark plugs (petrol)30,000 to 60,000 kmPetrol engines only

Renault-specific operations

Operation Typical interval Notes
Fuel filter (dCi) 60,000 km or 4 years Diesel only. Drain the water trap every 20,000 km or at each annual service.
EDC gearbox oil change 60,000 to 80,000 km (specialist recommendation) Dual-clutch automated gearbox only (Clio EDC, Megane EDC, Captur EDC). Renault does not officially specify a change, but specialist practice is every 60,000 to 80,000 km.

Renault electronic diagnostics

If your Renault has a warning light on, a quick scan can help you decide what to check next before booking it in. See our guide to Renault OBD fault codes, where you can look up common code families and what they relate to. At a high level, generic OBD categories cover areas such as powertrain (engine and gearbox), chassis systems, body electronics and network communication. A code points you to a system and symptom, but further testing is normally needed to confirm the exact faulty part.
