Servicing by engine type

Petrol Renault Clio servicing

Petrol Clio servicing commonly centres on regular engine oil and filter changes, plus inspection and replacement of ignition components such as spark plugs and (where fitted) coil packs. Turbocharged petrol engines (such as TCe variants) benefit from correct oil grade and sensible service timing, as clean oil helps protect the turbo and timing system. Air filtration and crankcase breathing checks are also important because short-trip use can accelerate contamination. If your Clio uses a timing belt, the replacement interval can differ by engine and model year, so confirm it for your specific K4M, H4B, H4D, H5F, H5H, F4R or M5M variant.

Diesel Renault Clio servicing

Diesel Clio maintenance places extra emphasis on fuel filtration and induction cleanliness, as modern high-pressure injection systems are sensitive to contamination. Many Clio diesels (including dCi and Blue dCi variants) may also use emissions hardware that needs the right driving profile and correct oil specification to reduce soot-related issues. Regular checks of boost hoses, intercooler joints and vacuum lines can prevent performance faults that feel like turbo problems. Exact service requirements vary by K9K diesel version and model year, so select your engine to confirm filter and fluid schedules.

LPG Renault Clio servicing

LPG Renault Clio models still follow the underlying petrol-engine service plan, but the fuel system adds items such as LPG filter replacement and periodic checks for leaks and hose condition. Because LPG combustion can affect plug wear and running quality, keeping spark plugs to the correct type and interval is especially important on dual-fuel cars. It is also good practice to ensure the petrol side is exercised and maintained, as many systems rely on petrol operation during starting or under certain loads. Clio LPG variants appear across several petrol engine families, including D4F, H4B, H4D and H5F, so the base schedule can differ between generations.

Hybrid, mild-hybrid and electric Renault Clio servicing

Clio V includes electrified variants, and while the high-voltage system is generally low-maintenance, routine inspections remain important for safety and reliability. On mild-hybrid (48V MHEV) and full-hybrid systems, the petrol engine still needs scheduled oil servicing, and the cooling and auxiliary drive systems should be checked to the correct intervals for the powertrain. For electric or hybrid components, any orange-cabled high-voltage parts should only be handled using the correct procedures and isolation steps. Where fitted, engines such as the 1.0 TCe MHEV and E-Tech hybrid petrol units will have model-specific checks that differ from earlier non-electrified Clios.

Bioethanol (E85) Renault Clio servicing

Bioethanol-capable Clio variants (E85) may have additional fuel-system considerations because ethanol blends can affect fuel quality tolerance and long-term storage behaviour. Following the correct oil specification and service timing helps manage dilution and condensation effects often associated with repeated short trips. Pay attention to fuel hoses and seals during inspections, and address any running issues promptly as misfires can damage the catalyst. As E85 availability and calibration vary by generation and engine, check your specific D4F-based application for the exact maintenance requirements.

Common service operations for Renault

The operations listed below reflect typical Renault Clio scheduled servicing, but the exact cadence depends on the selected generation, engine family and fuel system. Where more than one interval is shown, treat it as an indication that different Clio variants use different schedules.

Operation Typical interval Notes
Oil and filter changeSee selector aboveVaries by engine and recommended oil grade
Air filter30,000 to 60,000 kmMore often in urban or dusty driving
Cabin filter15,000 to 30,000 km or 1 yearAffects air conditioning and air quality
Brake fluid2 years (all models)Regardless of mileage
CoolantPer manufacturer (typically 5 years or 100,000 km)Check level and condition (colour, deposits) at every service

Renault electronic diagnostics

If your Renault Clio has a warning light or drivability issue, an OBD scan is a fast way to narrow the fault before replacing parts. You can look up common powertrain (engine and transmission) codes, as well as chassis and body-related codes, then match them to likely causes and checks. Start with the basics: battery voltage, air leaks, sensor connections and overdue servicing items. For code help and explanations, see Renault Clio OBD fault codes.
