Diesel Hilux maintenance (D-4D, GD-6 and other diesel engines)
Diesel Toyota Hilux models commonly need routine attention to engine oil and filters, especially on higher-mileage or hard-worked vehicles, because turbocharged diesel engines are sensitive to oil condition. Expect additional diesel-specific items such as fuel filter replacement and checks around the EGR system and (where fitted) the DPF, as these can affect drivability and emissions. For newer GD-series engines such as 1GD-FTV (2.8 GD-6) and 2GD-FTV (2.4 GD-6), sticking to the specified oil grade and interval helps protect the turbo and timing components. Earlier diesels such as 1KD-FTV and 2KD-FTV still benefit from consistent servicing plus inspection of boost hoses, intercooler connections and vacuum lines where fitted.
