Servicing by engine type

Petrol C-Class maintenance

Petrol C-Class engines range from everyday units to high-performance AMG variants, so service requirements can differ significantly between models. Regular oil and filter changes are particularly important on turbocharged petrol engines and on higher-output versions that generate more heat. If your C-Class is 48V (MHEV) badged (for example “EQ Boost”), it still has a conventional petrol engine and normal under-bonnet service items, even though some functions are electrically assisted. Common C-Class petrol engine families you may see include AMG, Kompressor, CGI and EQ Boost.

Diesel C-Class maintenance

Diesel Mercedes-Benz C-Class models are often long-mileage cars, so keeping to the correct oil and filter routine helps protect turbo and timing components. Many diesel variants use emissions systems such as EGR and a DPF, and these are sensitive to driving style and maintenance, so following the correct service plan matters. Diesel fuel filtration and air filtration are also key to reliability, especially on later high-pressure injection systems. Popular diesel badges across the range include CDI and BlueTEC.

LPG C-Class maintenance

C-Class models running LPG typically keep the underlying petrol service needs, with additional attention paid to the LPG system hardware and its filters where fitted. Because LPG conversions and factory-fit systems can differ, the exact inspection points and replacement intervals may vary more than on standard petrol models. It is still important to keep up with regular oil servicing and to ensure the engine remains in good tune, as misfires can stress the catalytic converter. Select your exact C-Class engine and fuel type to see the most relevant schedule information.

Plug-in hybrid (Electricity) C-Class maintenance

Mercedes-Benz C-Class models listed with Electricity are typically plug-in hybrids, combining an electric drive system with a petrol engine. Maintenance therefore covers both conventional items (such as engine oil servicing on the petrol unit) and high-voltage system checks that are specific to electrified vehicles. Brake servicing can also be influenced by regenerative braking, so condition-based inspection remains important even if friction brakes are used less in daily driving. Use the selector to ensure your plan matches your exact plug-in hybrid version.

48V (MHEV) C-Class maintenance

A 48V (MHEV) C-Class (often marked “EQ Boost”) is a mild hybrid: it adds a 48V electrical system to support the petrol or diesel engine, rather than replacing it. The core service items remain those of the combustion engine, so staying on top of oil and filter changes is still central to long-term reliability. Because there are multiple generations and outputs, the correct checks and service steps can vary between C-Class models. Choose your exact year and engine to confirm what applies to your 48V (MHEV) C-Class.

Common service operations for Mercedes-Benz

The operations shown below reflect typical C-Class servicing tasks, but the exact schedule can vary by generation and engine. Always check the plan for your specific C-Class to confirm what is due and when.

Operation Typical interval Notes
Oil and filter changeSee selector aboveVaries by engine and recommended oil grade
Air filter30,000 to 60,000 kmMore often in urban or dusty driving

Mercedes-Benz electronic diagnostics

If an engine management light is on, or you have driveability issues, it helps to scan the car and read the stored DTCs before replacing parts. Our Mercedes-Benz C-Class OBD2 fault codes page explains common code families (powertrain, chassis, body and network) and what they usually relate to. Use codes as a starting point, then confirm the fault with basic checks such as fluid levels, intake leaks and wiring/connector condition. Clear codes only after repairs so you can see what returns.
