BMW X3 petrol servicing (including 48V mild hybrid)

BMW X3 petrol engines range from older M54 and N46/N20 units through N52/N55 to newer B48/B58 and S58 variants, and some later models add 48V (MHEV) assistance. Prioritise correct engine oil specification and timely oil and filter changes, as turbocharged petrol engines (for example B48, B58, N55 and S58) are sensitive to poor oil quality and extended drain intervals. Spark plugs and ignition components are key service items on petrol X3s, and misfires often show up first under load. On 48V (MHEV) petrol models, routine maintenance still focuses on the petrol engine and its cooling and drivebelt systems, while electrical checks should be carried out as part of fault diagnosis if warning lamps appear.

BMW X3 diesel servicing

BMW X3 diesels include M47 and M57 earlier engines, then N47/N57, and later B47 and B57 units, many of which are turbocharged and some paired with 48V (MHEV). Diesel service plans commonly place extra emphasis on fuel filtration, air filtration and keeping the intake and emissions systems healthy. If your driving includes lots of short trips, DPF and EGR-related issues can become more likely, so it helps to keep on top of maintenance and address drivability symptoms early. Where fitted, turbo and intercooler hoses should be inspected for leaks, and any oil leaks should be rectified promptly to protect rubber components and sensors.

BMW X3 LPG servicing

Some BMW X3 variants are listed with LPG alongside petrol engines such as the N46 and M54. LPG systems add their own service considerations, so it is important that the maintenance plan for the base petrol engine is followed and the LPG hardware is checked at the same time. Keep a close eye on ignition condition (plugs and coils) because LPG can be less forgiving of weak spark, and drivability issues may be more noticeable. BMW X3 plug-in hybrid (electricity plus petrol) servicing

Plug-in hybrid BMW X3 models (for example xDrive 30e variants pairing electricity with a B48 petrol engine) combine conventional engine servicing with high-voltage system monitoring. The petrol engine still needs routine oil, filters and spark plugs on schedule, even if much of your driving is electric. Cooling circuits become especially important because hybrid systems often add additional thermal management, so correct coolant condition and leak-free operation matter.
